An Unexploded Grenade Was Found In Lithuania, Not Far From The Border With Belarus

In Lithuania, 1.3 kilometers from the border with Belarus, a live grenade dating back to World War II was discovered. This was reported by the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service.

A local farmer found the grenade while working in a field and reported it to border guards. Bomb disposal experts arrived at the scene.

“They determined that the object found was a Soviet F-1 hand grenade from World War II. After an inspection, a decision was made to defuse the grenade on-site,” the Security Service reported.

The Soviet (Russian) F-1 hand grenade is an anti-personnel defensive explosive device. It was based on the French F1 grenade and contains 60 g of explosive. The total weight of the grenade, including the fuse, is about 600 g. Due to its shape and yellow-green color, it was nicknamed “limonka.” As Lithuanian border guards have noted, even after lying buried in the ground for more than 80 years and becoming rusted over, it can still be deadly.
