Ukrainian Drones Have Shut Down Operations At Two More Russian Oil Refineries

The Syzran and Saratov refineries have halted oil processing.

Oil refining operations at the Syzran and Saratov refineries have come to a halt. A few days ago, they came under attack from Ukraine.

This was reported by Reuters.

Refineries in the cities of Syzran and Saratov halted operations following attacks by Ukrainian drones in September, three industry sources told the publication on September 15.

It is known that the Syzran refinery was shut down on Tuesday, while the Saratov refinery suspended operations last Friday.

The shutdown of these oil refineries is likely to exacerbate the domestic fuel shortage in Russia, which has restricted exports:

— gasoline,
— diesel fuel,
— jet fuel.


According to sources, several facilities at the Syzran refinery were damaged as a result of a drone attack. Specifically, this includes the main crude distillation unit (CDU-6), with a capacity of 17,100 metric tons per day. This accounts for about 71% of the refinery’s processing capacity.

They said repairs at the refinery could take at least a month.

The refinery’s second crude distillation unit, CDU-5, with a capacity of 7,100 metric tons per day—or 29% of total capacity—was undergoing repairs following a UAV attack in July.

Saratov Under Drone Attacks

The Saratov refinery suspended crude oil processing on September 11 following another drone attack.

Sources reported that the plant had also suspended operations on September 8 following a drone attack due to:

— equipment damage,

— a fire.

The facility was preparing to resume refining on September 10–11.

The Saratov Oil Refinery was also shut down for several weeks following a drone attack on August 2.
