Atypical pathogens are also present.

In Belarus, the number of hospitalizations due to acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI) is rising, with severe respiratory infections being reported that progress to pneumonia. There are also cases involving so-called atypical pathogens—Mycoplasma pneumoniae and Chlamydia pneumoniae.

This was reported Svyatoslav Velgin from the Minsk City Clinical Infectious Diseases Hospital. The doctor says that the rise in cases coincided with the start of the school year.

However, no cases of the flu have been reported yet—the flu season will begin later. Experts predict that the H1N1 strain will be the predominant influenza A virus this year. It penetrates the lower respiratory tract more easily, and bacterial infections tend to develop more quickly in conjunction with it. However, the disease will not necessarily take a severe course.
