Zelenskyy And Trump Met In New York: First Details

On Tuesday, July 22, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with U.S. President Donald Trump in New York. The talks are taking place on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

At the start of the meeting, Trump commented on the Ukrainian strikes against Russian oil refineries. He said he would discuss this issue with Zelenskyy, as it affects fuel prices.
At the same time, Zelenskyy expressed hope that the war could be ended before winter and that Trump would help in this effort.
When asked whether Putin would agree to meet in Miami at the G20 summit, Trump replied: “I don’t know if he’ll agree, but he wants to end the war. Both of them (together with Zelenskyy—ed.) want to end the war.”
In addition, Trump added that there is a good opportunity today to reach an agreement between Ukraine and Russia. In his view, it is in Russia’s interest to end the war, since there are two options: one is bad, and the other will lead to greatness.
It should be noted that Zelenskyy’s meeting with Trump in the presence of journalists lasted 7 minutes; it continued behind closed doors.
What Led Up to the Meeting
Zelenskyy arrived in New York to attend the UN General Assembly. The President of Ukraine announced about 20 meetings with U.S. officials, European leaders, heads of international organizations, American companies, and think tanks.
The head of state also reported on a new “Drone Deal” prepared for signing. Among the Ukrainian side’s priorities, he cited bringing about peace, protecting human lives, strengthening air defense, and specific proposals on security and de-escalation.
