This was statement by U.S. President Donald Trump during his address at the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

According to Trump, Washington continues to work toward ending Russia’s war against Ukraine.

“We remain committed to ending the devastating war between Russia and Ukraine, which claims the lives of tens of thousands of people every month,” the U.S. president said.

At the same time, Trump mentioned a law expanding his authority to impose tariffs. He noted that he signed the bill last week.

“Last week, in honor of Senator Lindsey Graham, I signed a new, powerful law passed by Congress that grants me significant new authority to impose tariffs—and, if necessary, I will exercise that authority,” Trump said.

Thus, the U.S. president left open the possibility of using the tools provided by law against Russia if Washington deems it necessary.

“It’s time to stop the killings,” the American leader declared.

As a reminder, on Thursday, September 17, the U.S. House of Representatives approved a bill by Lindsey Graham and Richard Blumenthal, which provides for tough sanctions and tariffs against Russia and countries that help it circumvent restrictions or purchase its energy resources.
