The President Of Finland Called On Elon Musk To Help Ukraine Launch Strikes Deep Into Russia

Finnish President Alexander Stubb has appealed to SpaceX CEO Elon Musk to allow Ukraine to use the Starlink satellite network on Russian territory to strike ballistic missile launchers. “I urge Elon Musk to give Ukrainians the opportunity to use Starlink for strategic purposes in areas where ballistic missile launchers are located, both in the occupied territory of Ukraine and in Russia. Because it would save lives,” Stubb said in an interview with Reuters on the sidelines of the UN leaders’ summit in New York on Thursday.
Ukrainian authorities claim that activating Starlink over Russian territory will help the Ukrainian Armed Forces, as winter approaches, to strike Russian launchers firing ballistic missiles—against which Ukraine lacks sufficient interceptor missile stockpiles to defend itself. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made a similar request to President Donald Trump in July. Approval of the initiative requires the consent of Musk himself, who has so far restricted the system’s use over Russian territory. Kyiv wants to use long-range drones and improved Starlink navigation to strike Russian mobile ballistic missile launchers used to attack Ukraine.
Denis Shtilerman, co-founder of the Ukrainian company Fire Point , explained that Ukraine is already using Starlink to create a strike zone along the front line, and authorization to use the system in Russia would allow for “expanding the strike zone to 500 km.” “If necessary, we will expand the strike zone all the way to Siberia. The technology will allow us to do so,” he stated.
Ukrainian authorities had previously expressed concerns that Moscow was planning systematic strikes and the destruction of the country’s electricity and heating infrastructure in the middle of winter.
Stubb, commenting on this, noted that Ukraine needs three things. “First, it needs air defense, and even Starlink would, to a certain extent, provide good protection against air attacks,” he said. Second, it needs additional power generators, and third, it needs money. “That’s what we’re working on right now. We’re putting together a winter package of measures because I see no signs that the war will end before winter.”
