Putin Cynically Justified Russia's Attacks On Ukraine And Accused It Of Derailing The Negotiations

The dictator claimed that the Ukrainians were allegedly the first to launch attacks against Russia.

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin claimed that Russia was allegedly ready to resume negotiations with Ukraine after the elections, but Ukraine, he said, “tried to strike Moscow and attacked polling stations.” His statements were reported by Russian media.

He also accused Ukraine of breaking off negotiations in Istanbul, but, according to him, “a few weeks before the election, it declared its readiness to resume negotiations.”

Furthermore, Putin cynically claimed that it was Ukraine that had begun striking Russia, and that Russian strikes against Ukraine, he said, were nothing more than a response.

“They started it all. They must feel Russia’s retaliatory strikes and understand that no provocative actions, no escalation of tensions, will lead to the result they want, but will only worsen the situation,” the dictator declared.

He emphasized that Russia’s response to Ukraine’s actions—in particular, to “strikes on civilian infrastructure”—had been substantial.

According to the dictator, peace proposals are now “on the table,” but “after everything they (Ukraine—Ed.) have done,” Russia will still “think carefully about what needs to be done.”

Putin also reiterated that Russia is allegedly not preparing for military action against Europe. He says that “there is no basis for this.” He called a statement by the Estonian defense minister regarding a possible conflict with Russia a provocation.
