NATO Secretary General: Putin Is In A Tough Spot

Mark Rutte called on NATO member countries to step up their support for Ukraine.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that the alliance is prepared to respond to hybrid attacks by the Russian Federation against European countries following new warnings from Danish intelligence. This was reported by euronews.
Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hagset called on European allies to take on greater responsibility for their own defense.
According to Rutte, NATO is prepared to respond to acts of sabotage and drone incidents across Europe and has plans in place to counter such threats.
“Russia is becoming increasingly active in cyberspace and other areas, but… NATO is prepared for this. We have all these response options… regarding hybrid threats to ensure that we remain strong,” he noted at an event in New York commemorating the victims of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in the U.S.
Rutte emphasized that the rise in the number of hybrid incidents in NATO countries indicates that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is losing the war in Ukraine, which has now been going on for five years.
“Putin is in a difficult position,” Rutte noted, adding that Russia will not win the war in Ukraine and that citizens of the 32 NATO countries can remain calm.
The politician called on NATO members to provide “strong support to Ukraine” if they “truly want to send a message to the Russians regarding every hybrid incident and every hybrid attack.”
“All response options are on the table, and we will use whatever is necessary,” Rutte assured.
In turn, speaking at a meeting of NATO defense ministers, Hegset proposed the “NATO 3.0” concept, aimed at strengthening military capabilities and deterring threats in Europe.
“NATO 3.0 is the recognition, following the end of the Cold War, that (NATO) must return to the status of a true hard-line military alliance, possessing real military capabilities capable of deterring threats right here on the continent and taking a leading role in Europe’s conventional defense,” Hegset said.
