Zelenskyy Awarded A Native Of Belarus The Order Of Merit

Yuri Aroshidze helps Ukrainians who have lost limbs in the war.

During his visit to the United States, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded Yuri Aroshidze, a native of Belarus and co-founder of the Protez Foundation, the Order of Merit, Third Class. The ceremony took place on September 23 in New York during Zelenskyy’s meeting with representatives of the Ukrainian community, according to “Zerkalo”.

The businessman of Belarusian origin received a state award from Ukraine for helping hundreds of people recover from amputations. After Russia launched its full-scale invasion, Yuri, together with Yakov Gradinar, founded the Protez Foundation in the U.S. to help Ukrainian military personnel, civilians, and children who had lost limbs.

As of today, the Protez Foundation team operates four prosthetics centers, with two more preparing to open. Since its inception, the foundation has provided prosthetics to more than 1,500 Ukrainians, including over 30 children. Moreover, the assistance does not end with the provision of a prosthesis: patients undergo rehabilitation and receive support as they return to their daily lives.

The team also established the Protez Academy to advance prosthetics and rehabilitation in Ukraine. More than 800 participants have already completed training through the academy’s programs.

For the Protez Foundation, the Yuriy Aroshidze State Award signifies recognition of the collaborative efforts of the entire team, donors, partners, and volunteers, the organization notes.
