He was 50 years old.

A half-marathon took place in Minsk on September 6. Some runners noticed an attempt to resuscitate one of the participants—later, a woman who knew the man reported on Threads that efforts to save him were unsuccessful. "Zerkalo" reports on what is known about this incident.

Several half-marathon participants shared videos of the resuscitation attempt near the Palace of the Republic.

“He collapsed right next to me yesterday. I didn’t realize right away what had happened because he was running a little ahead of me and to my right. I turned my head—and he was already lying there. It happened near the water station. The runners who were nearby and ran up to him were shouting to call an ambulance, and the people handing out water yelled, ‘We’re already calling one,’” described an eyewitness to the incident named Yana.

“My husband ran the 21 km; he witnessed the man running and then suddenly collapsing. They immediately started giving him a massage, called an ambulance, and soldiers participating in the race also ran over,” Elena shared.

The marathon organizers did not report this incident. However, a friend of his later reported that they were unable to save the man. The Investigative Committee also confirmed the man’s death.

“A friend of our family died halfway through the race,” the user wrote. “Maybe someone was near him when he started feeling unwell, or saw something—we’d be grateful for any information.”

According to her, the man’s relatives learned of the tragedy when the other participants crossed the finish line but he did not. His death was confirmed to them only after they contacted the police.

Journalists used the participant’s number to identify him—the 50-year-old Alexei Dashinevich had been resuscitated. According to official race information, he dropped out between the 12.1 km and 14.6 km markers and ultimately did not reach the finish line.

A friend of his clarified that this was not the first time he had run a long-distance race. His race results from as far back as 2016 are still on record. According to her, he had been undergoing medical checkups. Another acquaintance added that the man had no health issues or harmful habits.

“He had a full physical checkup,” wrote an Instagram user who identified himself as the deceased’s son. “He was completely healthy and ran long distances (21–42 km) very often. It just happened that way—that’s all.”
