Rallies of solidarity with political prisoner Barazenka to take place daily (Photo)

Activists of the civil campaign “European Belarus” plan together near the building of Minsk remand prison at 7 p.m. every day.

On November 19 oppositionist gathered near the remand prison in Valadarski Street in Minsk to express solidarity with political prisoner Alyaksandr Barazenka.

The young people spent about an hour near the remand prison entrance. First activist were standing near the doors of the remand prison in silence, then they started to go round in a circle with their hands on the nape. Officers of the remand prison who detained participants of the rally held on October 28 near the remand prison, turned attention to the activists, but this time policemen haven’t taken actions.

Then the young people formed a line near the entrance and several times shouted: “Freedom to Barazenka!”.

Activists of the campaign have decided to gather near the remand prison in Valadarski street every day ay 7 p.m. in order to express solidarity with Alyaksandr Barazenka. The rallies are to take place until the political prisoner stops his hunger strike.

“We address everyone who cares about Alyaksandr Barazenka’s destiny and urge to come to the prison walls every day at 7 p.m. Our solidarity has helped many prisoners of conscience to be released. If we shall demonstrate it now, Alyaksandr Barazenka will leave the prison too,” the young oppositionists say.

The activist of the civil campaign “European Belarus” Alyaksandr Barazenka was arrested on October 27 in the Investigation committee of preliminary investigation of the directorate of Internal Affairs of Minsk city executive committee where he came for an interrogation. The oppositionist is one of the accused in the Process of Fourteen, a criminal case initiated on charges relating Article 342 of the Criminal Code against peaceful protest participants. Their rally was held in Minsk on January 10 2008. The arrest took place almost immediately after the EU lifted sanctions against high-ranking Belarusian officials.
