Party leaders won’t make concessions to Lukashenka

The press-service of the Belarusian popular Front has made an official statement of the deputy chairman of the party, Vintsuk Vyachorka, in which the politician refutes the reports of a Polish newspaper “Dziennik” about a proposal of Belarusian opposition leaders to hold a round table discussion with participation of Alyaksandr Lukashenka and Lech Walesa.

“I haven’t made such proposals to hold such a meeting. A year ago the democratic forces named their conditions for holding possible negotiations with the authorities of Belarus, in particular release of political prisoners, end of political repressions and crackdown on the independent press. The new wave of political prisoners, a harsh crackdown on peaceful mass rallies and so on was a refusal of the authorities,” Vyachorka said. “Irresponsible statements about unconditional readiness of European organisations and countries to start a dialogue with Lukashenka convince him of his impunity and become one of the reasons of repressions’ rise”.

One of the leaders of the Belarusian Popular Front believes that the journalist of the Polish newspaper misrepresented the meaning of their phone conversation, and lifted words from their context to confirm the concept supported by the journalist.
