Protest actions for freedom for political prisoners go on in Belarus (Photo)

On August 16, the Solidarity Day, opposition held pickets in Minsk and other Belarusian towns.

Activists of the civil campaign “European Belarus” organized a picket on the intersection of Independence Avenue and Kazlou Street in Minsk. The young oppositionists unfurled a banner “Freedom to Political Prisoners!” and held portraits of Mikalai Autukhovich, Uladzimir Asipenka, and Artsyom Dubski.

One of the participants of the action told passers-by through a megaphone about repressions against opposition activists and political prisoners in Belarusian jails.

The picket lasted for 15 minutes. Dozens of passers-by came to the protesters, they expressed their interest in fate of the political prisoners and their support to the young people.

The action of solidarity was held in front of the National Library, at the intersection of Independence Avenue and Filimonau Street. Its participants demanded to stop political repressions and release Mikalai Autukhovich, Uladzimir Asipenka, and Artsyom Dubski.

The young people, holding a banner “Freedom to Political Prisoners!” and portraits of the prisoners of conscience, formed a human chain. They shouted slogans demanding to release the arrested oppositionists. The action lasted for 15 minutes, none of the participant was detained.

Activists of “European Belarus” also pasted leaflets and posters with information about the Solidarity Day and political prisoners.
