Ambassador perform dictation on International Mother Language Day (Photo)

The third national dictation was held in the Red Church in Minsk on International Mother Language Day.

The action was timed to the 20thanniversary of adoption of the Law on Languages in Belarus. More than 50 people, among them ambassadors of Ukraine and Sweden Igor Likhovoi and Stephen Eriksson wrote an extract from Uladzimir Karatkevich’s The Land under White Wings by dictation.

Opening the ceremony, Aleh Trusau, the head of the Belarusian Language Association of Francysk Skaryna, said Belarusian dictation were organized in many towns in different countries. For example, last year such actions were organized in Italy, on the isle of Gotland (Sweden), Warsaw, Prague, Australia, Canada, and USA.

Aleh Trusau invited Minsk dwellers and tourists to take part in other stages of dictation, which are scheduled for March 15 and 25 in the headquarters of the Belarusian Language Association in Minsk. They will be dedicated to the first Constitution of the Republic of Belarus, which gave the status of the single state language to Belarusian (March 15, 1994) and the 92nd anniversary of the Belarusian National Republic, where the Belarusian language was proclaimed the state language for the first time.
