The opposition politician underwent a difficult surgery.
In an interview with "Radio Svaboda” Inna Kulei, wife of opposition politician Alexander Milinkevich, spoke about his health.
— Unfortunately, it’s been a rollercoaster ride the whole time. One moment things are going very well and we’re making progress, the next it’s two steps forward, one step back. After all, it’s the brain, and the brain is such a thing—you can’t say it’s unpredictable (because the doctors know what’s happening), but no one makes predictions. We’re monitoring and observing,” Inna shared.
According to her, Alexander Milinkevich’s body has proven to be quite resilient.
“The damage isn’t that severe in terms of memory; his speech is very good—it’s a relief that it’s intact. But, of course, the musculoskeletal system and the fact that a person has been bedridden for such a long time—that’s a complicated matter. Here, the physical therapists are working on getting him to sit up, trying to get him on his feet, and maintaining his posture—that’s the more difficult part. And the bacteria he picked up while in the hospital are in a sort of dormant state and could become active at any moment, which sets things back a bit," Inna Kulei reported.
As a reminder, On November 24 of last year, Alexander Milinkevich was admitted to the hospital for scheduled surgery. Prior to that, tests showed that his right carotid artery was 80% blocked by a blood clot. Doctors warned of a high risk of stroke and insisted on surgery. The surgery was performed on November 25, but Milinkevich subsequently developed cerebral edema. He spent three weeks in intensive care. This was followed by a long period of treatment.
