Council of Belarusian Democratic Republic stands for stricter sanctions against Lukashenka’s regime

Ivonka Survilla, the President of the Council of the Belarusian Democratic Republic, welcomes extending the travel ban list for the persons involved in political repressions in Belarus and calls for stricter sanctions.

“I can only welcome the decision by the European Union to add 19 persons involved in political repressions to the travel ban list. But the sanctions still do not affect the so called ‘middle officials’ of the repressive machine, investigators working for the KGB, prosecution agencies, Ministry of Internal Affairs and raiding on homes of opposition activists almost every day, interrogating them and preparing cases against them for so called courts.

The Council of the Belarusian Democratic Republic repeats it suggestion first expressed after the events of December 19: all people working for the repressive machine, namely the KGB and other security services, officers of prosecution agencies and courts regardless of their positions, as well as members of their families should be banned from entering in the European Union, the United States, Turkey, Ukraine, and Egypt (three latter countries are popular holiday places among them and their families),” Radio Svaboda cites Ivonka Survilla.

“The Council of the Belarusian Democratic Republic is also seeking West’s support of the civil society and all people struggling for freedom and independence of Belarus. This is the subject of the talks between the Council and western politicians. We have exchanged our views on the issue with the Prime Minister of Canada, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, heads of some European states. We find their understanding and will continue our efforts,” she said.
