Censorship blocks letters to Mikalai Statkevich

The political prisoner receives empty envelops with a stamp “the letter did not pass the censorship”.

A Movement for Freedom’s activist Leanid Garavy announced the information, the human rights center Viasna reports.

In response to yet another of his letters to the political prisoner he received a postcard with a message that Statkevich received an empty envelope with a stamp “the letter did not pass the censorship”.

Leanid Garavy points out that he has been in correspondence with political prisoners for a long time. And he sent similar letters to Mikalai Statkevich, Dzmitry Dashkevich, Ales Bialiatski and Mikalai Autukhovich at the beginning of October. Autukhovich received his letter without any problems and Leanid Garavy received a response from him. Whereas Mikalai Statkevich sent a postcard saying that yet another time he received an empty envelope of a registered letter with a traditional for him mark “The latter did not pass the censorship”.

That is not the first Leanid Garavy’s letter blocked by the censorship of the Mogilev prison, where Statkevich is kept. In the Garadok activist’s opinion, such treatment of Statkevich is a peculiar for of pressure on the former presidential candidate.
