Aleh Vouchak files complaint against Ministry of Justice officers

Human rights activist Aleh Vouchak learned from the justice department of the Minsk city executive committee he is not on the list of persons banned from travelling abroad.

Vouchak received an official paper from the citizenship and migration office of the Frunzenski district police department on March 23. According to the paper, he was put on the list of persons banned from leaving Belarus on March 5 on a decision of the Ministry of Justice. Police failed to explain to him the grounds on including him into the list and advised to refer to the justice department of the Minsk city executive committee, BelaPAN reports.

“I applied to the justice department of the Minsk city executive committee on March 26 to hear why a temporal travel ban was imposed on me. Officers of the agency looked through the database and said I was not on the list,” Vouchak said.

According to the human rights activist, he sent a complaint to the minister of justice on March 27 asking him to carry out an inquiry to figure out who of his subordinates wrongly put his data on the database of people subject to the travel ban.

“I ask to bring to responsibility the person who put me on the list of travel banned. Judging by a reaction of officials from the Ministry of Justice, I am not the first one who has lodged such a complaint. We need to sent them complaints so that the officials guilty of violating the law could be brought to responsibility.” Vouchak said.
