Aliaksandra Herasimenya: I Believe Everything for Us Will Change for the Better in a Month or Two

The Belarusian swimmer believes that Belarus will soon hold new elections.

Belarusian Foundation for Sports Solidarity believes negotiations of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) head Rene Fasel with Belarus to hold the World Championship in 2021 contradict the decision of the International Olympic Committee.

"Negotiations between the International Ice Hockey Federation and Belarus contradict the IOC decision of December 7," said the chairman of the Belarusian Sports Solidarity Fund, Aliaksandra Herasimenya, during a press conference on Thursday, reports Interfax.

Herasimenya stressed the decision not only contradicted the IOC decision but "completely violates the concept of ethics and morality".

"I think that the World Championships should be postponed or cancelled, as it is impossible to hold it," she said.

The athlete thanked the IOC for its decision. "Imposition of sanctions against the NOC shows there's justice in the world. It is what Belarus lacks today," summed up Herasimenya.

- "I believe everything will change for us for the better in a month or two. Things will settle down in Belarus; new elections will be held, and all the guilty will be brought to justice. Athletes will finally be able to prepare for the upcoming starts and competitions, regardless of their political views and positions.
