Journalist, Restaurateur Ivan Murauyou Sentenced To 2.5 Years In Colony

He was detained on September 1, 2022.

Political prisoner, journalist and restaurateur Ivan Murauyou was sentenced to 2.5 years in a general regime colony. This is reported by the Belarusian Association of Journalists.

He was first detained in August 2020, dragged out of his car. Then Murauyou was sentenced to some days of arrest.

On September 1, 2022 officers of the Investigative Committee came to "Hookah No. 1", which Murauyou owns, and detained him on criminal charges. He was charged under Part 3 Article 361-1 of the Criminal Code (participation in an extremist formation).

Human rights activists recognised Murauyou as a political prisoner.
