Polish Scientists Have Developed New Systems For Detecting Drones

The technologies were showcased at the International Defense Industry Exhibition in Kielce.

Scientists at the Łódź University of Technology have developed two state-of-the-art systems that can be used to detect and track drones. Defense industry companies have already expressed interest in these developments, according to “Polish Radio”.

One of the systems allows users to determine the drone’s location and track it based on the sound it emits.

“The principle behind this system is that we record ambient sounds and, using several microphones, can determine the drone’s location by analyzing only the sound it emits—in other words, by detecting it by ear,” — explains Piotr Lipiński.

According to Maciej Podsędkowski, a distinctive feature of the development is the system’s ability to effectively isolate the drone’s own sound from ambient noise.

“The uniqueness of our solutions lies in the fact that we are able to very effectively isolate the drone’s own sound. We are also capable of suppressing it very effectively,” the scientist noted.

The second development is an onboard system for detecting and tracking aerial objects.

Both technologies were presented at the International Defense Industry Exhibition in Kielce. Representatives of the defense sector expressed interest in the developments.

Scientists at the Łódź University of Technology report that they are already in talks regarding cooperation and the practical application of the systems they have developed.
