Russian Troops Retreat in the Severodonetsk Direction: Situation on the Front in the Morning of 17 May

Operational summary of the AFU General Staff.

The AFU pushed back Russian troops near the village of Sirotino in the Severodonetsk direction. As a result of the hostilities, the enemy suffered losses and retreated.

This is stated in the morning report of the AFU General Staff as of 17 May.

At the same time, the Russian army's offensive in the eastern operational zone continues. The main efforts of the enemy are concentrated in the Donetsk direction.

In the Donetsk direction, the enemy continues shelling with mortars, small arms artillery, multiple rocket launchers and uses aviation.

In the Donetsk and Luhansk directions, eleven enemy attacks were repelled, five tanks, one Tor surface-to-air missile system, six artillery systems, twelve pieces of armoured fighting equipment and one enemy vehicle were destroyed over the past 24 hours.

The enemy made three unsuccessful assault attempts in the Bakhmut (towards Vyskriv), Avdiiv (towards Kamianka) and Kurakhiv (towards Ugledar) directions.

The enemy did not conduct active combat operations in the Novopavlovsk and Zaporizhzhia directions. The enemy carried out shelling of civilian infrastructure in the areas of Kamenskoye, Orekhiv, Novoselka and Huliaipole.

In the Volyn and Polessie directions, the situation has not changed significantly, and the threat of missile and aviation strikes against infrastructure facilities in Ukraine from the territory of Belarus remains.

In the Seversk direction, the enemy continues intensive protection of the Ukrainian-Russian border. In the vicinity of the village of the Bilokopytovo, Sumy region, the enemy launched mortar fire at units of the State Border Service of Ukraine.

In the Slobozhansky direction, the enemy concentrates its main efforts to contain the offensive of the Defence Forces units.

In the Kharkiv direction, the enemy concentrates its main efforts on holding the occupied positions and preventing the advance of our troops. In the Slavyansk direction, the enemy is re-staffing and replenishing its losses and attempting to resume the offensive.

In the Yuzhnobug direction, the enemy units did not conduct active combat operations, shelling our units with artillery and mortars in the areas of Liman, Tavria, Trudolyubivka and Osokorivka settlements.

In the Bessarabia direction, as a result of a missile strike from Russian strategic aircraft, civilian infrastructure was hit and private buildings were destroyed in the Bilhorod-Dnistrovsk district of the Odesa region.

Over the previous day, air defence units of the Army and Air Force hit five aerial targets: an Su-25 aircraft, three operational-level UAVs and a cruise missile.

The air strike aircraft of the AFU air force continued to deliver air strikes to the enemy in certain areas and support combat operations of our troops' units.
