Why Doesn’t Ukraine Shoot Down Enemy Planes Over Belarus?

The military are explaining.

The capacities of air defense systems do not make it possible to shoot down Russian planes in the airspace of Belarus. This can happen only if the aircraft enters their zone of destruction.

It was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the statement of the colonel, speaker of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Yuryi Ihnat during a briefing on Wednesday, July 13.

“Unfortunately, we cannot destroy it (the Russian aviation — edit.) on the territory of Belarus. It is too far for us to reach it. Russian aviation is working around Ukraine, in such a horseshoe, from Belarus, ending with Snake Island. They are constantly between Snake Island and Sevastopol, 24/7, in constant patrol mode,” he said.

According to Ihnat, they (the Russian Federation — edit.) relocate aircraft from one bridgehead to another, using all the airfields of Belarus without exception.

“We can destroy them (aircraft — edit.) only when they enter the zone of destruction of our air defense. Today, the means that we have are the S-300. The range of destruction of this complex is up to 70 km. It is clear that these complexes are located on the territory of Ukraine, and it is understandable that they are not on the very border,” he added.
