Fire Breaks Out At Mazyr Refinery

The plant, built by a Russian contractor, caught fire.

Last night rescuers were sent to the Mazyr oil refinery. The fire was reported at 23-41, informs the Ministry of Emergencies of Belarus. The fire occurred after "depressurization of the filter of the combined unit for hydrocracking of heavy oil residues". This is a new unit - it has not yet been commissioned. Commissioning works are still carried out, said the Ministry of Emergencies.

The fire was extinguished, no injuries were reported. Technological process of the plant was not broken. The reasons for the fire are being investigated.

Earlier, the state media reported that the "construction of the heavy oil residue hydrocracking complex (H-Oil) is the most ambitious project in the investment and production plan in the history of the company". The cost of the project was estimated at $1.4 billion. The general contractor is Mammut Rus LLC from the Russian Federation.
