Where Did Head Of One Homel District, His Deputy Disappear To?
ALIAKSANDR SIVAKOU

There is some contradictory information about the top officials.

As Charter97.org reported, the Homel publication of Hard-Hitting News wrote that a few weeks ago a reader reported that Aliaksandr Sivakou, head of Chyhunachny district, had been detained in the city. He was allegedly taken out of the administration building in handcuffs. There were also reports that the deputy head of the district administration, Nataĺlia Zhuk, might have been detained as well.

There is still no official information about the detention of the officials, but there are rumors that it might be related to corruption. The newspaper could not confirm this information at the moment, but the fact is that both officials are not at their workplaces.

The district administration's reception office reports that Aliaksandr Sivakou and Natallia Zhuk are on sick leave. They are also still present on the official website of the institution.

Hard-Hitting News draws attention to the fact that details of corruption cases often surface later in the Belarusian context, reminding of the recent high-profile case of former Forestry Minister Vital Drozhzha. At the beginning of May last year he was dismissed from his position with the wording "due to committing an offence incompatible with being a civil servant", and later it became known that the former minister had been caught taking bribes. A court recently sentenced him to seven and a half years in prison, reducing the year under an amnesty.
