Pro-Russian Bundestag Member Secretly Visited Belarus

A scandal erupted in Germany.

A German MP from the pro-Russian Alternative for Germany party Petr Bystron could have made a trip to Belarus at the end of 2022.

He hid the fact of his trip from the chairman of the Bundestag and the public, writes RND. There were also no official reports from the Belarusian side about the trip.

According to the non-profit research center Correctiv and the Lithuanian TV channel LRT, he allegedly used a business trip to Lithuania in November 2022 to travel to Belarus.

Bystron is the Alternative for Germany representative on the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Bundestag. Committee Chairman Michael Roth (SDPG) called the information about the Belarusian trip “an extremely discouraging event”.

“The MP concealed the fact of a trip to Belarus and is silent for now. It is noteworthy that Bystron's trip was not reported in Belarus either, although the visit of a German deputy could be a good topic for propagandists.

Why did a member of the Bundenstag, and even a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, need to visit Belarus? And who did he meet there? Why did he hide his trip? Are we talking about Bystron's private initiative or did he travel on behalf of the party? So far, these questions remain unanswered. The scandal is just beginning,” political analyst Alexander Fridman commented on the information about Bystron’s trip to Belarus.

Petr Bystron is known for his pro-Russian and anti-Ukrainian views. He openly opposes the transfer of weapons from the West to Kyiv.
