Number Of Belarusian Students In Poland Grows By 24% In Two Years

Most of them study in Polish.

More than 12,000 students from Belarus study in Poland, according to the data of the Perspektywy Foundation. This is 24% more than two years ago.

Belarusians make up 11.5% of all foreign students who study in Poland. Ukrainians make the majority in this regard — 48.1 thousand people or 45.6%.

The growing popularity of Polish education among foreigners is a general trend. When the country joined the EU, only 8.8 thousand foreigners studied at Polish universities. Over the past 19 years, their number has grown almost 12 times — up to 105.4 thousand people. In the last year alone, the increase was about 16,000 foreign students.

Thus, since 2004, the level of internationalization of education (the share of foreigners in the total number of students) has increased from 0.48% (the lowest indicator in Europe at that time) to 8.7%.

The largest number of foreigners study management (19.4 thousand), information technology (10.4 thousand) and medicine (7.1 thousand).

60% of foreigners study in Polish, 37% in English and 3% in other foreign languages.
