An explosion occurred on the territory of the Kuibyshev oil refinery in Samara. This was announced by the head of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy Alexander Khinshtein.

Khinshtein later added that the alleged organizer of the explosion was detained in the Orenburg region by FSB officers while trying to leave Russia.

“According to preliminary information, the detainee is an employee of the Kuibyshev oil refinery. Earlier, he moved to Russia from the territory of Ukraine,” the parliamentarian wrote.

According to Baza, the detainee worked at the plant as an electrician. CCTV cameras allegedly showed how he entered the plant with a package and left without it. According to investigators, the man planted a homemade explosive of 20x40 centimeters in size.

The detainee was born in the Ukrainian city of Izyaslav, but lived and was registered in Tyumen, specified Baza.

The Kuibyshev oil refinery is located about 11 km from the center of Samara. The plant is owned by Rosneft. It produces motor fuel and heating oil.
