DPRK Turns Down Chinese Satellite In Favour Of Russian One

After Putin's visit.

The DPRK is now using a Russian satellite instead of a Chinese satellite to broadcast national television. This is reported by Reuters.

Signals of the Korean Central Television of North Korea are transmitted through the Russian Express 103 satellite instead of the Chinese ChinaSat 12 satellite starting from June 29.

As Reuters notes, the satellite was replaced following Russian dictator Vladimir Putin's visit to North Korea on June 18. According to reporters, South Korean government agencies and media outlets track North Korean state media as a limited source of information - despite the politicised and propaganda content.

Reuters notes that it is possible to watch North Korean television online, but the signal may be delayed or the picture quality may be poor. It is not yet known whether North Korea has temporarily switched its broadcasting to a Russian satellite or whether the change will become permanent.
