Gifts to Putin won't bring about peace.
The United States' decision regarding Russian diesel fuel will result in continued terror and underhanded tactics.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine citing a statement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“Gifts to Putin will not lead to peace or any benefit for the civilized world. Russia will ‘repay’ the diesel with further terror and despicable acts,” the Ukrainian leader noted.
The president emphasized that allowing the aggressor country to sell petroleum products is an investment in a war that must be ended, not continued. Zelenskyy stated that a genuine de-escalation with Russia is necessary on a reciprocal basis.
“Any easing of sanctions against Russia without a clear and long-term de-escalation agreement with Russia is a clear sign of weakness; it plays into Russia’s hands, encouraging it to kill more, fight longer, respect America even less, and inflict even greater losses and damage on the world,” he emphasized.
What led up to this
Trump stated that had agreed with Putin that Russia would immediately supply more than 300,000 metric tons of diesel to the U.S. and global markets, another 500,000 metric tons in November, and 1,000,000 metric tons immediately thereafter.
Furthermore, given the condition of Russia’s oil refineries, the aggressor country will subsequently supply an additional 3,000,000 metric tons of diesel fuel.
The U.S. Treasury Department has already authorized the supply of Russian diesel and lifted sanctions on it until April 7, 2027.
