Ukraine Has "Shut Down" Kremlin Trolls

A powerful blow to Putin's propaganda.

Ukraine has neutralized one of the Kremlin’s tools for information policy and propaganda. Traffic from Russian bots has dropped sharply over the past few days amid a series of Ukrainian attacks on Yandex data centers. This was reported by the online computer magazine Tom’s Hardware reports, citing data from Cloudflare.

According to Cloudflare statistics, bot traffic from the Yandex network fell to 0.4% of the peak number of HTTP requests recorded over the previous two weeks. The first significant drop in this metric was recorded on October 8: at that time, traffic fell to approximately 57%. This occurred following a strike on a Yandex data center in the city of Sasovo in the Ryazan Region, where two supercomputers were housed. Later, another major facility of the company in Kaluga, located approximately 354 km west of Sasovo, was taken offline.

Meanwhile, NetBlocks, an international organization that monitors the internet, reported that Yandex Cloud’s network traffic had fallen to 30% of its usual level, while Yandex LLC’s had dropped to 63%. Most likely, this is leading to slower performance of internet services or complete outages in access to them for Russians.
