Explosions were heard throughout most of the night of October 14 in the Russian city of Balakovo, in the Saratov Region. The targets may have included a large data center and the “MZ Balakovo” metallurgical plant.
As a result of a massive drone attack in the industrial zone of Balakovo, a number of fires have been observed. That is precisely where Sberbank’s data center and the aforementioned plant are located, reported OSINT analysts from the Exilenova+ channel, citing data from NASA FIRMS satellite imagery.

According to monitoring sources, the attack on the region began around 4:00 a.m. Shortly thereafter, information appeared online stating that Balakovo was under attack, where drones allegedly first struck an energy infrastructure facility. Following the strikes, power outages began in the city, according to eyewitnesses on social media.
Over the next few hours, explosions continued to be heard in Balakovo. It is reported that the city was targeted by FP-1 drones.

Shortly thereafter, monitoring channels reported that, according to preliminary data, Sberbank’s data center in Balakovo had been targeted. This is a large-scale project costing 122.2 billion rubles (over $1 billion), which aims to create one of the largest data centers in Russia. Although it is still under construction, analysts note that it is designed to accommodate approximately 3,000 server racks, up to 120,000 servers, and electrical capacity of up to 82 MW. It is intended to support Sberbank’s IT infrastructure, as well as data storage and processing.
In addition, analysts claim that another facility in the city that may have been affected is the MZ Balakovo metallurgical plant. According to data from open sources, the plant produces about one million metric tons of products per year.
