Tens of thousands of demonstrators took to the streets of Athens.
Large-scale protests are taking place in Greece on Wednesday by education workers, college students, and high school students, who are demanding increased funding for schools and universities, higher salaries for teachers, better conditions in dormitories, and lower prices for housing and food. This is reported by CNN Greece.
“Thousands of students, cadets, teachers, and workers took to the streets today; active protests are planned in 50 cities across Greece,” CNN reports.
People are carrying signs that read “Study or Survive,” “You count profits and losses; we count human lives,” and “From Greece to France, we want public and free education.”
“Today we took to the streets, picking up the torch of the struggle in France against a series of laws targeting education... the cost of living has skyrocketed; we’re paying 800 euros in rent... we’re protesting the terrible infrastructure at universities,” a student from the School of Politics and Law told CNN.
According to the latest estimates, between 10,000 and 30,000 people are participating in the protests in Athens.
