Lukashenko Took Offense At The Riga Sprats

Someone crossed that person's red line.
Do you remember how someone once said that his entire border is one solid red line? That if anyone ever so much as touches it with a finger, he personally—unlike some others—won’t even count to three. Because he doesn’t know how.
So he’ll strike back immediately, without warning—so that the living will envy the dead. It doesn’t matter if NATO is watching or not. That response is already stored in every general’s safe.
And you know what made me think of this? You won’t believe it. It’s because Latvian sprats were banned here the other day, along with the rest of the unfriendly sprat. And it’s not because Belarusian sprat complained about unfair competition.
Belarusian sprat has absolutely nothing to do with this. It’s just that someone responded this way to an attempt on their national sovereignty and, in some places, perhaps even their territorial integrity.
Because while you and I weren’t here, unknown individuals wearing black masks caused an incident at the Latvian border. First, they tried to push migrants into Latvia, and when that didn’t work, they left, only to return some time later, cross the border, and steal the surveillance cameras.
And, of course, malicious people spread various false stories about this border incident. Some said that someone was lying—that he himself had sent the unknown individuals in black masks to the border. Others claimed that his border guards were lying to him.
In both cases, it looked pretty bad. And in the second case, even worse than in the first.
Because in the second case, it turns out that Belarusian border guards are controlled by anyone but the very person who is supposed to guarantee their stability.
So what do you think? Out of the two options, someone chose the only one possible for himself. That is, to make a complete fool of himself. He said he personally had nothing to do with it. That he hadn’t given any such orders, and nothing of the sort had been reported to him. He said he asked his border guards, and they weren’t in the know either.
So this certain someone claimed that the Latvians had provoked the situation themselves. That is, they first crossed into Belarus to simulate an assault on the Latvian border. Then they retreated—but, tellingly, back into Belarusian territory. They wandered around somewhere on Belarusian territory for several hours. Then they returned to the border, removed the surveillance cameras, brought them into Belarus, and only then, with a clear conscience, left for Latvia.
In other words, a group of individuals repeatedly desecrated the Belarusian border through premeditated collusion and with particular cynicism. And it turns out the Belarusian border guards didn’t even notice this repeated, organized desecration of the state border. They weren’t even aware of it until they saw it on TV. And some people were the very last to find out about it all.
So it turns out that the Belarusian border is just a free-for-all. Come and go as you please; take whatever you want.
It turns out that someone’s “red line” was crossed many times—and by prior arrangement—yet in response, he simply banned Latvian sprats. And was that the only response he had stashed away in all the generals’ safes?
I mean, it would have been better if someone had just taken all the blame. Even if he didn’t actually do anything wrong this time. Because illegal immigrants are just part of everyday life. Who are you going to surprise with these illegal immigrants anymore? But the sprat incident turned into a real disgrace.
Although, of course, certain people are no strangers to disgrace either.
