A House Belonging To The Owner Of A Company That Supplies Weapons To Ukraine Caught Fire In Prague

The police have not ruled out arson.

Czech forensic experts are investigating a nighttime fire at a private home in the Kunratice district of Prague, owned by Martin Drdi , the owner of the STV arms conglomerate , according to a report by Novinky.

The fire broke out about half an hour before midnight, when neighbors noticed flames at the entrance to the house.

According to cadastral records, the house belongs to Martin Drdi, a billionaire and owner of the STV arms manufacturer.

“We dispatched one fire crew to Kunratice, which used a high-pressure water jet to extinguish the fire covering an area of 1×1 meter. An investigator called to the scene estimated the damage at 200,000 crowns,” said Miroslav Rezač, a spokesperson for the fire department.

The fire started near the garage, at the entrance to the house. The fire also spread to the insulation and the house’s frame, so firefighters had to dismantle that section and inspect everything using a thermal imager. Afterward, the police were called to the scene.

“Forensic experts are currently investigating all the circumstances and causes of the fire in cooperation with fire department investigators,” said police spokesperson Richard Grdina.

According to available information, forensic experts have not yet ruled out any of the possible causes, namely: a technical malfunction, negligence, or arson.

STV Group—a Czech manufacturer of ammunition and military equipment—is one of the key suppliers of weapons to Ukraine amid the full-scale war with Russia.
