The BZhD stated that it could resolve the issue.
Officials at the Minsk train station promise to resolve the issue of long lines at the luggage storage area, which can reach 70 people during peak hours. To address this, they plan to install automatic self-service lockers in December, and passengers have been allowed to drop off and pick up their belongings at night, as reported by the Oktyabrsky District Administration.
As Vladimir Shevchenko /b, head of the Minsk branch of BelZhD, explained during a meeting with district officials, on peak days the luggage storage facility handles up to 1,300–1,500 pieces of luggage per day. Lines can reach 50–70 people, and the average wait time is 20–25 minutes.
A significant portion of the customers are visitors to the capital from neighboring countries. Additional delays occur when paying for services with cards issued by foreign banks, including those from the Russian “Mir” payment system.
To reduce lines, during peak hours the number of staff at the luggage storage facility is increased from one or two to five or six people.
The luggage storage facility is usually open from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. However, it is now possible to drop off or pick up luggage at night, from 10:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., by prior arrangement. Corresponding notices have been posted on the entrance doors.
In addition, automatic self-service lockers are set to be installed at the current luggage storage facility. They are scheduled to go into operation in December 2026. The work is being carried out by the Brest Electrotechnical Plant.
The station is also considering the possibility of launching a service to deliver luggage to homes, hotels, offices, or the airport—and back. A similar service is already operating at Minsk National Airport.
As a reminder, back in late July, passengers complained about long lines at the Minsk train station’s luggage storage facility. Some said that the space was too small to accommodate everyone, and that they had to change their plans in the evening because they couldn’t retrieve their belongings. BelZhD attributed the lines to an increase in passenger traffic and the fact that luggage is accepted and returned manually; at that time, railway officials promised to install automatic luggage storage lockers.
