Explosions can already be heard on the outskirts of the Russian capital.

More than 130 drones, explosions in the Moscow region, and planes that were diverted mid-flight—a nighttime drone attack paralyzed operations at several Moscow airports, and Russian authorities announced a massive air defense response, reports “Focus”.

On the evening of October 28 and into the night of October 29, Moscow and the Moscow Region came under attack by drones. Russian authorities reported that air defense systems were activated and dozens of drones were destroyed, while three airports in the region imposed temporary restrictions on aircraft arrivals and departures. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin repeatedly reported on the attack throughout the evening and night on his Telegram channel.

The first reports of downed drones appeared on the evening of October 28. At 9:46 p.m., Sobyanin announced that eight drones had been destroyed; at 9:59 p.m., he reported another 12; and at 10:20 p.m., he reported that ten targets had been intercepted.

Later, the mayor continued to post updates on the air defense operations. That same night, he announced that additional groups of drones had been destroyed.

According to data released by Sobyanin on the night of October 29, the total number of drones allegedly shot down as they flew toward Moscow exceeded 120. However, there is no independent confirmation of these figures.

Explosions were heard in the Moscow Region

Amid reports of the attack, information emerged about explosions in the Moscow Region.

As reported by the ASTRA Telegram channel, citing local residents, three explosions were heard near Naro-Fominsk, approximately 56 kilometers from the Moscow Ring Road (MKAD).

Eyewitnesses also reported explosions in the direction of the Kaluga Region. However, they noted that they did not hear the characteristic sound of drones near Naro-Fominsk.

At the time of publication, no official information was available regarding the causes of these explosions or their possible consequences.

Restrictions Imposed at Moscow Airports

Due to the threat posed by drones, Rosaviatsiya temporarily restricted the arrival and departure of aircraft at Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky (Ramenskoye).

Subsequently, the restrictions at Zhukovsky were lifted. At the same time, operations at other airports continued to be regulated for flight safety reasons.

According to Russian media reports, two planes flying from Turkey to Moscow were diverted due to the restrictions at Vnukovo.

Thus, the drone attack affected not only the operations of Russia’s air defense system but also air traffic in the Moscow region.

The reports did not include any information about confirmed damage to facilities or casualties resulting from this attack.
