Federal highways in the Chelyabinsk Region were closed to all traffic from October 2 through October 5.
During Russian dictator Vladimir Putin’s trip to military exercises in the Chelyabinsk Region, his motorcade was accompanied by a military helicopter. Earlier, an electronic warfare system and an anti-aircraft machine gun were spotted among his security detail.
This was reported by The Moscow Times.
During the trip, drivers were stopped before entering the highway, along which a long convoy of vehicles was traveling at high speed. A military helicopter hovered above the convoy.
Rosavtodor closed federal highways in the Chelyabinsk Region to all traffic from October 2 to 5, citing training exercises and Putin’s visit.
Security for the Russian dictator is noticeably being stepped up from trip to trip. Back in the spring in Astana, observers noticed a vehicle equipped with an electronic warfare system and an armored car with a machine-gunner’s position set up on its roof.
Putin’s limousine was then escorted by about twenty cars and 14 motorcyclists, and the Kazakhstani state security service confirmed the deployment of military aircraft.
In the fall, the security arsenal was expanded. During his September visit to Vladivostok, a pickup truck equipped with an anti-aircraft machine gun traveled in the motorcade, and now air cover has been added to the ground security detail.
The Kremlin is tightening security for the dictator, and not just while he is on the move. In late August, it was reported that Putin had increased his security detail for the fourth time: he is now protected by more than 800 officers of the Federal Security Service. Over the past four years, their number has grown by nearly a hundred.
According to the Financial Times, significant changes to Putin’s security detail occurred after the U.S. eliminated Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei. The Kremlin became concerned that modern artificial intelligence tools are capable of analyzing millions of hours of video and identifying specific targets, so Putin’s security detail had to be reorganized.
