The U.S. Has Identified Three European Countries That Will Participate In Negotiations With Russia And Ukraine

We're talking about the so-called E3 format.

The U.S. considers Germany, France, and the United Kingdom to be the most likely European representatives in negotiations to end Russia’s war against Ukraine. No final decision has yet been made regarding European participation in the negotiations.

This refers to the so-called E3 format, according to the Financial Times. According to the publication, the U.S. side views these three countries as the most likely representatives of European interests in the negotiation process.

One European diplomat told the FT that special representatives of U.S. President Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner had already agreed on the E3 format with Ukrainian authorities during a visit to Kyiv in September.

What Concerns Other European Countries

The prospect of Europe being represented by only three countries is causing concern in other nations on the continent. Sources interviewed by the publication note that Germany, France, and the United Kingdom are among the most influential European nations. At the same time, having them represent the entire continent could alienate smaller countries.

Another diplomat emphasized that before appointing specific representatives, it is first and foremost necessary to secure a seat for Europe at the negotiating table.

Who else has been mentioned as possible representatives

Earlier, The Telegraph reported that European leaders are considering five politicians who could potentially represent Europe in negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Among them are Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Czech President Petr Pavel, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gar Støre.
