In Ukraine, the American systems were rendered "errant."
The Ukrainian Armed Forces have turned the Patriot air defense system into a formidable weapon, while also learning to conserve missiles. Ukrainian defenders have begun using American air defense missile systems as a key element of ambush tactics to destroy Russian fighter jets, helicopters, and other aircraft.
This was stated in a podcast for “RBC-Ukraine”Yuriy Ignat, head of the Communications Directorate of the Ukrainian Air Force,
According to the colonel, in the U.S., air defense systems are used to protect airfields and military bases, while Ukraine has decided to expand the scope of the Patriot air defense systems’ involvement in operations.
“Make it, so to speak, a ‘roaming’ mission: set up an ambush, shoot down five planes, and return unscathed,” Ignat explained.
The officer cited military operations in the Middle East as an example, where, he said, as many as eight missiles are fired to destroy a single target. Ignat is convinced that the reason for the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ missile crisis lies in the military’s wasteful actions in the Middle East.
“After all, what was used up in the Middle East would have lasted us for several more years,” concluded the head of the Armed Forces’ Communications Directorate.
