He was transporting 3,000 packs of contraband cigarettes.
In Lithuania, near the border with Belarus, border guards detained two local residents who had come to retrieve Belarusian cigarettes that had arrived via a weather balloon. This was reported by the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service.
Two residents of the Vilnius district arrived in the village of Laukininkai in a VW Passat. They brought with them a night-vision device, two knives, and a cutting tool. The men parked 200 meters from the weather balloon that had landed with the “package,” where border guards found them.

The package attached to the balloon contained six cardboard boxes bearing the logos of the Grodno-based “Neman” tobacco factory and 3,000 packs of NZ Gold cigarettes with Belarusian excise stamps. The value of this shipment is 16,530 euros. A pretrial investigation has been launched.
The men face a fine or imprisonment for up to four years.
