Putin and Lukashenko continue to test Europe's security with increasing frequency.
Regarding the incident at the Latvian-Belarusian border, where armed, masked men escorted a group of 20 people attempting to illegally enter the European Union, is Moscow. This was stated by Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga.
“Make no mistake: Moscow is behind this. Putin is deliberately using migration as a weapon, with Lukashenko’s help, to destabilize Europe. This is part of a broader aggressive strategy. Russia and the Belarusian regime continue to increasingly test Europe’s security by carrying out subversive actions,” Sibiga said.
He added that the response should be to increase pressure, strengthen borders, and boost support for the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
The day before, the Latvian National Armed Forces reported that this week “a group of at least 20 illegal migrants, accompanied by masked individuals, attempted to illegally cross the Latvian state border.” The Latvian military thwarted this attempt, but the accompanying individuals were armed, threatened the soldiers, and actively pushed and directed the group of migrants toward Latvia.
A few hours after this incident, masked individuals entered Latvia, where they damaged an electrical distribution cabinet and stole cameras, after which they returned to Belarusian territory.
