Should Khrenin be on his guard?
On October 6, during a visit to the testing ground of the Institute of Powder Metallurgy near Minsk, Alexander Lukashenko spoke about the recent appointment of the former Chief of the General Staff Pavel Muraveiko to his administration.
— Everyone was laughing. I appointed the former Chief of the General Staff as a deputy in my administration. For now. Maybe he’ll be president tomorrow. It’s like a record playing on repeat. I’ll see how he distances himself from Khrenin (the defense minister—Ed.) and takes an objective look at the things happening with Khrenin and with you. And he’s competent in that regard,” Lukashenko said while speaking with event participants.
As a reminder, Muraveiko’s appointment was announced in late September. As announced, the former Chief of the General Staff, in his role as deputy head of Lukashenko’s administration, will oversee a number of strategic projects, supervise the work of Lukashenko’s regional aides, and handle citizens’ appeals.
