Trump is stepping up pressure on the court in The Hague.
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has imposed sanctions against the International Criminal Court (ICC), prohibiting transactions with the court. This was reported by Reuters.
In recent years, the U.S. has consistently opposed the activities of the International Criminal Court. In February 2025, the Trump administration imposed sanctions against the ICC due to its investigations involving the U.S. and its allies, including Israel. Several court officials were subject to the restrictions, including former Prosecutor Karim Khan, and later four judges. Washington also demanded that a ban on investigating the activities of Trump and U.S. officials be enshrined in the Rome Statute.
In 2026, pressure on the court continued. In August, the U.S. imposed sanctions against ICC President Tomoko Akane and Senior Trial Counsel Abdoulaye Seye.
It is noteworthy that today, the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to South African human rights activist and lawyer, former judge of the International Criminal Court Nawanethem (Navi) Pillay.
