U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance cited the war with Iran as the main reason for the Republican Party’s defeat in the midterm congressional elections. He stated that some of the voters who supported Donald Trump in 2024 voted for the Democrats this time around.
This was stated in a post by J.D. Vance on the social media platform X.
According to the U.S. vice president, the reason for the defeat was not low voter turnout among Republican Party supporters. Some of the voters who supported Trump and Vance in the 2024 election changed their minds and voted for the Democrats.
Vance cited Florida as an example. According to him, there were nine percentage points more voters supporting Republicans than Democrats in that state. This result differs only slightly from the figure in the 2024 election.
The vice president also discussed the results of a survey of former Trump voters who switched to the Democratic side. They most frequently cited four reasons for their decision: a desire to end the war, to focus on the cost of living and inflation, to put U.S. interests first, and to change the country’s relationship with Israel.
“Our voters went to the polls. And it is precisely these four reasons that explain why many of them voted for the Democrats,” Vance wrote.
