Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, one of the sons of Muammar Gaddafi, was killed in fighting near Libya's Hamada oil field, Libyan TV channel Al Ahrar reported.

The Al Hadath channel, citing a source in the Gaddafi family, also reported that the former Libyan leader's son Saif was killed in armed clashes. Abdullah Othman, Saif al-Islam Gaddafi's representative at the Libyan Forum for Political Dialogue, confirmed Muammar Gaddafi's death without revealing details, Al Khaleej reported. "We belong to God and to Him we will return. Mujahid Saif al-Islam Gaddafi is under God's protection," he wrote on social media.

Saif al-Islam Gaddafi is the second son of the Libyan leader assassinated in the fall of 2011. In 2021, the prosecutor's office of the official Libyan government issued a warrant for his arrest on suspicion of ties with fighters of the private military campaign (PMC) Wagner.
