Putin Aide Says Planned Economy Is Returning To Russia

Back to the USSR.

The planned economy, with which the Soviet Union lived for more than 70 years, is coming back, says presidential aide on economic issues and former Minister of Economic Development Maksim Oreshkin, writes The Moscow Times.

Oreshkin says the revival of the principles of the state plan is evidenced by the automation of management processes and the total digitalization of economic relations.

"There is a return and reincarnation of the planned economy at its best. Automation of managerial processes. Those who did not digitalize, lagged behind the modern reality for decades. Data is all digital. Now institutions, transactions are being automated, that is, the relationship of man not with nature, but the interaction of man with man," Oreshkin said during the open expert dialogue "Higher Education in the New Technological Era."

As an example, he cited digital cab services, which, according to Oreshkin, have moved to "planned" prices.

"There is no market in cabs anymore. There are people who need a ride, and everything related to the transaction can be automated. You can no longer choose who drives you, you can no longer choose the price. The system of planned economy says you will go for 428 rubles, so you will go for 428 rubles. This is the planned price, which is an automatically determined price for this trip," Oreshkin specified.
