A 70-year-old Former Chernobyl Accident Liquidator Arrested In Gomel Region

He was detained for politics.

Human rights defender from Mozyr Vladimir Telepun was taken into custody in early April. It is assumed that at first he was held in the temporary detention center of Mozyr District Department of Internal Affairs, then he was transferred to SIZO-3. A criminal case has been opened against him, "Viasna" found out.

The details of the charges are unknown, but the essence of the case is political. Vladimir Telepun, 70, was recognized as a political prisoner on April 30.

Telepun is known in the region for his work in defense of human rights, including the right to peaceful assembly. In 1986, he participated in the liquidation of the consequences of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident. He has health problems.
