What would be the reason for activating Article 5 of the NATO Charter?

The Kremlin is already waging a hybrid campaign against Poland aimed at undermining stability and security in the region. This was stated by Polish Army Lieutenant General Krzysztof Krol, writes The New York Times.

"They are testing us. They've made it clear: they say, 'We're already waging war against you,'" Krol said.

He said it's not just a military threat, but also attacks on infrastructure, cyberspace and society in general.

"You're trying to contain us militarily. But we can strike at you at any time - across society, deep inside your territories," the general emphasized.

He recalled the attempted sabotage of the Polish railroad, which could have led to a large-scale tragedy.

"That attack did not result in casualties. But if it had succeeded, hundreds of people would have died. Would that then have been a sufficient reason to activate Article 5?" - Krol noted.

The general also called on NATO to act tougher in response to Russia's actions.

"If we don't react, we may fail in the long term," he emphasized.

Krol said the Alliance should consider a mirror response to hybrid attacks.

He also stressed that Poland is actively preparing for possible threats - increasing the size of the army, investing in weapons and developing the direction of drones.
