Kaja Kallas: Our Goal Is To Push The Kremlin Into Real Negotiations

But it is not worth asking Moscow for them.

EU foreign policy chief Kaia Kallas advised European leaders not to put themselves in a vulnerable position, saying they should not "humiliate themselves" by begging Moscow for talks, writes Politico.

"So far we have seen that Russia does not want to participate in any dialog. We should not disgrace ourselves by being the initiators of negotiations. You know, we are begging you to talk to us," Kallas said after a meeting of Nordic and Baltic ministers.

Instead, Kallas said, the goal should be to rid the Kremlin "of the pretense of negotiations and push for real negotiations."

The publication noted that her statement came amid increased EU pressure on Moscow on several fronts. In particular, the leaders finally unblocked a 90 billion euro loan for Ukraine and also approved the 20th package of sanctions targeting Russian banks. The publication believes that these actions were intended to show that Europe is still capable of acting decisively and supporting Ukraine.
